The police beat both the ladies Smt. Phulbai – Sonu’s mother & Smt. Munnibai – Sonu’s mother in law. And , also they kicked the 7 yr. old , younger brother Kakke . The policemen beat the young boy with their hands and fists , till he fell unconscious. The policmen went away after threatening the family. Seeing this , Sonu’s mother & mother in law decided to shift to Sanjay Nagar, Amlai immediately as the police were after their life, but when they reached the Railway Station , police threw their belongings on the platform , and also threw their unconscious son on the platform. The lady pleaded , that they let them go, as they had already beat their son to make him unconscious, but the police left their belongings on the railway station along with their unconscious son and took the ladies to the police station, there they were made to sign some document, which they don’t know about , as they are illiterate.

After , they reached Amlai, the police again followed them and forced them , that they cremate the dead body in the night itself. But, they waited till morning , and cremated the body next morning with the help of Mrs. Meena Singh and others of Sanjay Nagar, Amlai. A case has been filed against the concerned policeman ASI Pradyumana Tiwari responsible, but the case is pending in the High Court and more details are awaited.

  • The INTUC General Secretary , Shri Gulab Mishra who is a known figure in that area has written to the Indian Human Rights Commision and spent Rs. 50-60 thousand till date to fight this case of Kakke aged 7 years , against ASI Pradyumana Tiwari . He told me over the phone that around 11 arrest warrants are pending against this ASI Pradyumana Tiwari , but due to his closeness to political figures in the state , he is still out and bullying around the public.

United Sikhs doing a great job

dear all
unitedsikhs.org is doing a great job. Here in India & around the world when some sikhs are doing "patitpana" by disclaiming their turban and trimming their hair. United sikhs is fighting for the cause of sikhs in France , where turban ban is on.
Here is an excerpt of an email i have recd. today:
Press Release: 22nd Feb 2008, Friday, 11th Phalgun (Samvat 539Nanakshahi )
Community Alert: Sikhs Facing Discrimination Due to Improper ID Guidelines
Join US in Fighting Religious Discrimination on Photo IDs
To report discrimination regarding your photo ID,

If a licensing official tells you to take off or lift your turban for a photo id, you have the right to say no. - Tell the licensing official that you always wear your turban,it is a religious requirement, and that it is part of your everyday appearance.- If the licensing official states that you cannot obtain a license without removing your turban, or prints “not valid for identification on the license,” write down the details ofthe incident (date, location, what happened), official’s information (name, id number, and phone), and ask for a copy of the specific guidelines the official is following.

Earlier this month, UNITED SIKHS asked you to join an initiative to report discriminatory practices when obtaining photograph identification. Thanks to your continued diligence and concern, we have received two reports of discriminatory practices in South Carolina, in addition to the previously reported incident in Washington State. In South Carolina, two Sikh gentlemen were asked on separate occasions to remove their turbans for their driver’slicenses. The two Sikhs protested and firmly refused to remove their turbans, repeatedly explaining the significance of the turban and how it is part of their daily appearance. While the South Carolina officials continued to express that it was against their policy to allow any headdress in the photographs, the officials eventually relented and both gentlemen received their licenses, wearing their turbans as usual. UNITEDSIKHS is pursuing a dialogue with the Department of Motor Vehicles in South Carolina and with State representatives to ensure that a proper policy is instituted to protect Sikh religious rights in South Carolina. In a letter to the Director of the Department of Licensing in Washington State regarding the incident dealing with a Sikh gentleman who was issued a license that was "Not Valid for Identification, " UNITED SIKHS highlighted the significance of the turban for Sikhs and how it is part of the Sikh identity. The letter also expressed that biometric standards used by the federal government allowed headpieces worn daily for religious purposes, like the turban, so long as they do not shadow or obscure a person's face. According to UNITED SIKHS Staff Attorney Jaspreet Singh, "In no way does a turban interfere with the identification procedure, nor does it violate any standard for identification. To claim that a turban does indeed do either of these things is discrimination. "UNITED SIKHS asks that you continue to report incidents involving you, your family, and your community so that we are able to continue to collate important data to be furnished to the proper authorities, as well as to pursue specific incidences of discrimination to ensure that your rights are protected.

In addition to above the zonal Sewadarji, S. Gurucharan Singh ji visited the 3 localities where Sikligar & Banjare families stay. We have prepared a comprehensive list of theirs and further we are applying for BPL (Below Poverty Line) cards for them. Followed by that we will help them getting all facilities from the Govt. for which they are eligible. We also have S. We had already segregated the clothes according to age and then, after packing in new packets, we put name tags on each of them. Also we got new dastaars stitched for the children and pagdis for the elders. Shoes & woolen clothes were also distributed as per availability.

27th Jan. – Sunday - We had called for a monthly meeting of all the members, only a few turned up, but the Gurudwara committee members also joined us. We called for a separate monthly contribution from each for the Sikligar project. We propose to buy them household items starting from nail cutter to mattresses etc. We will be sending detailed expenses to you every month.

In addition to above S. Shamsher Singh attended the “Jansamasya Niwaran Shivir” on 25th Jan. 08 at Chingrajpara, one of the locations where Sikligars stay. He gave a written complaint regarding Water, Electricity, and Missing Ration Cards etc. to the Corporator (Paarshad) of the area. He has promised to help us. Also we have seen, that S. Gurvinder Singh, 12 years old who had left studies after studying Class I, appears for the Class 5th exams this year, as a private student. If he is able to clear the exams, next year he will be sitting in Class 6th and we will arrange for tuitions so that he can cope up with the other students of his class. The other children who are already going to Govt. schools will be shifted to Guru Nanak School & Guru Tegh Bahadur School depending on the areas, from next year.
Also, one girl is getting married this May 2008; we are working on the local level to make the marriage expenses to be met conveniently. We are doing our best to work on the Sikligar project and bringing them up in life. They are living in slums and temporary shades, with no proper sanitation and cleanliness. Our project in the coming months would be to get them permanent houses from the government. At present , since last 2 Sundays i.e. 27th Jan & 3rd Feb. 08 we have arranged for a Van to pick them up and drop them back, so they start coming to the Gurudwara regularly , once they are attached to Sikhism & Sangat again we are hoping for better results in the coming times.

Your guidance is always sought for; please write what else can be done.

Gurudware Committee te logan da kabja

Pyare Veeron,

Aajkal bahut dekhan te aa reya hai ki gurudware committian logan noo hor door hee kar riyaan ne. kuch limited members hee apnee chala rahe ne, they are limited members and each year or two they will make one of them their pardhaaan. committees are busy calling expensive raagi singhs and paying them lakhs of rupees out the golak, which is sangat's hard earned money. instead we should send that money in social work or constructive work , like helping our poor sikh brothers to come up in life. like i have heard christians or bohras have a common social fund, where in money is available interest free or at nominal interest rate.

In bilaspur also, we have guru nanak school shikshan committee , dayal band & guru singh sabha , dayalband. both these committes have got limited members, and there is no participation of a common sikh like us, who is not a member of any of these committees.
We are working individually as Bilaspur Circle , of Sikh Missionary College and running Social Service Projects, Book Stalls at different places wherever Gurpurab is being celebrated.

Jaago mere veeron, agar assi , aese hee hath te hath rakh ke baithe rahange, te committee waleyan ne sirf buildingaaan hee banania ne, hor mahnge to mahnge raagi singha noo bula ke paise barbaad karne ne. assee hor lokan noo vee aware karna hai ki , instead NGO banake , Guru Nanak ji dee seekh mutabik " NAAM JAP, WAND CHHAK & KEERAT KAR" , noo sach kar dikhana hai.
